Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
President/Statutory Representative Director:
Tsuneo Murata

Overview

Murata will be exhibiting its products and technologies at "CEATEC JAPAN 2016,” to be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.

Details

CEATEC JAPAN 2016

Period: Tuesday, October 4 to Friday, October 7
Location: Makuhari messe
URL: http://www.ceatec.com/en/
Booth No.: 5Hall 5C77

Summary

The theme of the Murata booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2016 is “Enabling your innovation.” Murata is proposing technologies and solutions that support an IoT society with the message of “realizing an IoT society through technology.”
The booth will contain five areas: (1) Downsizing technology to support wearable devices, (2) Solutions that support traffic systems, (3) Energy management, (4) Hands-on RFID experience, and (5) Open innovation. Murata will be introducing its technologies and solutions by means of demonstrations and case studies in these areas. Since an IoT society cannot be realized through Murata technologies and products alone, we will be introducing case studies that showcase collaborations with partner companies and case studies in which Murata technologies and products have been used to help make an IoT society a reality.
Murata will be exhibiting its lineup of communication modules, sensors, power supplies, and compact general-purpose components at the booth. We hope to see many visitors at the booth, where they will be able to see how we respond to diverse customer needs through solutions.

Outline of exhibited items

(1) Downsizing technology to support wearable devices

User requirements for wearable devices and applications are growing wider in scope. This area of the booth will offer a wireless motion capture demonstration to introduce Murata’s ultra-compact, low power consumption devices, and its downsizing technology and design and engineering strengths.

Must-see demonstration

Wireless motion capture system demonstration
In this demonstration, we will attach eight sensor probes to the human body and join these wirelessly to capture the motion of a golf swing. Previously, movement has been using wired sensor probes and cameras. However, 360-degree movement can now be easily detected and recorded using compact, flat wireless sensor probes.

(2) Solutions that support traffic systems

The traffic infrastructures of newly emerging economies are still vulnerable. Murata is proposing a mesh network for industry and a platform for this network. This will enable a variety of traffic information to be acquired from individual road lanes by sensors and communication modules, and this information can be sent to the cloud and smart phones as data. At present, systems for acquiring road lane information are physically wired. Murata will seek to reduce the cost and trouble involved in installation and maintenance of such systems by effectively applying its wireless technology.

Must-see demonstration

Traffic counter system
Sensor nodes are installed on traffic signals and signs to collect traffic volume, vehicle speed, environmental information, and other information from individual road lanes based on proprietary algorithms. In this area, we will give a demonstration to introduce the concept of managing data that is acquired by linking sensor nodes to the cloud using a mesh network for sensing tasks.

(3) Energy Management

This area will introduce test case studies for technology adopted at six locations inside and outside Japan for visualizing when, where and how varying amounts of energy are used and for achieving optimized energy consumption.

Highlights

• Energy management systems

(4) Hands-on RFID experience

A card with an RFID tag attached will be handed out to visitors to our booth, and visitors will be given point rewards as they visit each of the booth areas and listen to explanations. Finally, as part of this hands-on demonstration, they will be presented with a novelty gift matched to the number of points they have acquired.

Highlights

• RFID tags
• RFID reader/writer

(5) Open Innovation

This area will introduce idea contest case studies based on the theme of IoT from “Makuake,” the crowdfunding platform hosted by CyberAgent, Inc.
