Izumo Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (Shimane Prefecture, Izumo City), a production subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd., in collaboration with Sankyu Inc. (Chuo Ward, Tokyo), a delivery partner for business location logistics, has become the first Japanese manufacturing company to introduce an all - electric light-duty truck, the FUSO eCANTER, into its operations.

Since all-electric light-duty trucks differ from conventional diesel vehicles in that they are driven entirely by an electric motor, they don’t generate the noise and exhaust of internal-combustion engines, minimizing the environmental burden in consideration of the local communities. Because of their low noise and vibrations, they are also valued for their ability to reduce mental and physical stress on operators.

Hoping to contribute to improvements in the daily life of local communities, Izumo Murata Manufacturing is introducing the all-electric light-duty truck FUSO eCANTER which is extremely quiet and environmentally friendly,  into the company’s  supply chain and business  logistics. Compared to ordinary trucks, the FUSO eCANTER is expected to achieve a CO2 reduction of 3.6t (tons) per year.  Izumo Murata Manufacturing will continue to develop strategies for improving society and the environment, which will include increasing the number of FUSO eCANTER trucks into  the company’s operations, as is feasible.

The Murata Manufacturing group is stepping up efforts for achieving “harmony among people, organization, and society,” as outlined in Murata’s Mid-term Direction 2021, including by endorsing, in February 2020, the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)*. Murata will continue to contribute to society’s sustainability by engaging in diverse strategies, including the introduction and promotion of renewable energy.

About the all-electric light-duty FUSO eCANTER truck

Driven by an electric motor, the emission-free eCanter has been highly recognized by both Japanese and international customers as a solution to environmental problems in cities, such as noise, exhaust gas or carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Compared with conventional diesel-powered vehicles, the FUSO eCANTER produces less noise and vibration, thereby easing the physical and mental burden placed on drivers and improving their working conditions.
In Japan, over 50 units have been delivered. Until now, the FUSO eCANTER has been driven over 2 million kilometers in total worldwide. The FUSO eCANTER has been used as a delivery truck by e-commerce operators as well as logistics and retailing businesses in Japan for short-distance and urban deliveries.
