Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.’s tbc series of 01005 inch size (0.4 x 0.2mm) multilayer ceramic capacitors have won Excellence Awards at the 2020 Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards. This MLCC product achieves a maximum capacitance of 1.0μF and the 008004 inch size (0.25 x 0.125mm) version offers a maximum capacitance of 0.1μF
About Murata Manufacturing’s Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors
Concurrent with the spread of 5G-compatible smartphones and the increasing miniaturization and multi-functionality of wearable devices and the like, electronic circuitry, too, must become smaller and denser. Multilayer ceramic capacitors are essential parts in electronic devices and are used in many such devices like smartphones and wearables. For example, a high-end smartphone features approximately 1,000 capacitors, showing these parts’ high aptitude for miniaturization and large capacitances.
The multilayer ceramic capacitors recognized by the aforementioned awards accomplish the respectively highest capacitance in the 01005 inch size and 008004 inch sizes based on Murata’s proprietary thinning technology for ceramic elements and thin-layer sheet forming technology. These small, high-capacitance products promote the miniaturization of electronic circuitry and contribute to improvements in design freedom needed for enabling high-functioning electronic devices.
Murata Manufacturing will continue to increase development of high-temperature guaranteed products and their static capacitance, work on expanding its lineup in response to market needs, and contribute to the increasing miniaturization and higher functionality of electronic devices.

The Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards once a year recognize outstanding new products and services, this year for the 39th time. In principle, out of the new products and services that have been featured during the year from January through December 2020 in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Nikkei Sangyo Shimbun, the Nikkei MJ, the NIKKEI VERITAS, the Nikkei Shimbun online edition, and Nikkei Asia, around 40 are selected via a strict evaluation by an evaluation committee.
