Overview
Tsuneo Murata, President of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) (ISIN: JP3914400001) , made the new year's greetings, and following is the summary of his speech.
2011 saw many natural disasters and economic changes, and the direct and indirect effects of these damaged our operations greatly. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our employees, particularly those on site, we were able to recover in a short period of time and begin production again. I am truly grateful to you all for working together in the face of so many problems.
In 2012, it will be very difficult to forecast changes in market trends due to such factors as the instability of Europe's finances, so it will be very important to increase the sensitivity of our "antennas" so that we can quickly detect any signs of change and to make preparations to respond. This is the final year of our medium-term management plan, and I would like to concentrate on creating foundations for emerging-nation markets and new markets.
Following such moves as our acquisition of Renesas Electronics's PA business and Finland's VTI Technologies, this year we would like to begin merging those technologies to create a system that will generate synergy. As the global business environment changes radically, I would like our company to instigate change, rather than just follow and react to changes that happen around us. In addition, with an aim toward true globalization, I would like to depend not just on Japanese ways of thinking and abilities, but also on those of talented people from around the world, so that we can cope with a global business environment and seize new business opportunities in other countries.
