About MURATA BOY and MURATA GIRL

Engineers from Murata Manufacturing independently conceived of the idea for MURATA BOY, and the robot, completed in 2005, embodies Murata’s technological capabilities. MURATA BOY incorporates many of our own products, including gyro sensors and wireless communication modules, and demonstrates tricks such as stopping without falling over and running on a balance beam. In 2008, we adapted these technologies to produce MURATA GIRL, a robot that rides a unicycle.
Murata Manufacturing wants to help children understand the fun and fascination found in science and manufacturing, and the company has been including MURATA BOY in its educational outreach programs since 2006. The robots visit about 100 Japanese schools each year, and as of 2012, approximately 11,000 children have learned about the attractions of science through demonstrations of the robots’ capabilities.
