Overview

Murata, a global leader in advanced electronic components and solutions, announces the sponsorship of the Japan Pavilion in Expo Milano 2015. Under the main theme of Expo Milano 2015, "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", Japan Pavilion's theme will be "Harmonious Diversity". The Pavilion consists of several Scenes introducing Japanese food culture and technologies to solve global food issues. MURATA BOY, the bicycle-riding robot developed by Murata, will play an active role during the whole duration of the event, from 1st of May to 31st of October.

Details

MURATA BOY will be part of the Japan Pavilion's futuristic Scene III - Innovation. The bicycle-riding robot will appear every day, several times a day, as the hero of an animation, taking visitors to a journey around the world. MURATA BOY will share information about global food issues and present Japan's advanced technologies and actions contributing to the future. MURATA BOY will also make several real-life bicycle-riding demonstrations during the core opening hours daily.

Now, with the futuristic scene created for Japan Pavilion, this dream will come true", says Vice President Ryuji Miyamoto, "Murata is honored to be able to contribute to increasing people's awareness of the global food issues with the help of MURATA BOY."

MURATA BOY is the first robot in the robot family developed by Murata to showcase the company's technologies and innovations, and to inspire today's and tomorrow's innovators all over the world. MURATA BOY can travel at a speed up to 2 km per hour, both forward and backward, as well as stand still on his bicycle without falling. The advanced technologies used in the MURATA BOY include various kinds of sensors, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® modules, as well as other electronic components manufactured by Murata. MURATA BOY, as its cousin, MURATA GIRL, and the team of Murata Cheerleaders launched in 2014, are utilized by Murata as technology ambassadors to bring smile to people's faces, and to raise interest in the unimaginable opportunities offered by electronics to shape the future.
