In order for Murata to enter the next stage of development, we will need to focus our strength in three areas, the healthcare, environment/energy and automotive markets. We have already penetrated the automotive market in the area of electronic control. Our role in this market will become more eminent as the world enters the new era of hybrid vehiclesand electric vehicles. The field of environment/energy is close to the foundation of our social infrastructure. Murata should be able to contribute in this field with our technologies for downsizing and energy conservation. All three fields, including healthcare, are projected to rely heavily on electronics. Since health is a high-priority issue for the public, we have a strong desire to become a key contributor in this field. However, the healthcare market is entirely different from the markets we have been involved with in terms of business models, practices and even the jargon used.Since the medical market is even more specialized than healthcare, this tendency is very evident. Therefore, addressing more everyday needs in the personal healthcare market is our natural choice as a starting point. Since this business domain is compatible with our existing technologies, we should be able to start contributing to this market immediately. As we become increasingly involved in the personal healthcare market, we should also begin to see light in the medical market.
