The First in the World to Achieve Silver Oxide/Alkaline Button Batteries with 0% Mercury

In conventional silver oxide and alkaline button batteries, mercury has been added to the anode in order to control battery swelling resulting from the emission of gas.

The Realization of 0% Mercury through New Murata Technology

‘Gas Suppression Effect (Block System 1)’

In place of conventional gas emission suppression mechanisms employing mercury, Murata has developed its own original gas-suppressing technology using corrosion-inhibiting, high performance zinc alloy powder and an anode current collector with a special corrosion-proof finish to achieve a silver oxide battery with 0% mercury.

‘Gas Absorption Effect (Block System 2)’

In addition to its silver oxide battery technology, Murata has adopted original technology that mixes gas-absorbing material with the cathode to realize 0% mercury in its alkaline button batteries as well. Murata has eliminated the use of mercury in its entire lineup of button/coin type batteries while still achieving performance equal to or greater than that of conventional batteries.
