Murata Singapore Launch KUMIHIMO Tech Camp Singapore 2026, a MedTech-Focused Open Innovation Program

6/16/2026

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
President: Norio Nakajima

Murata Electronics Singapore Pte. Ltd. (hereinafter “Murata”) will host KUMIHIMO Tech Camp Singapore 2026, the first edition of the program to be held in Southeast Asia and India. The inaugural Singapore edition of KUMIHIMO Tech Camp, Murata’s flagship open innovation program, will run throughout 2026 and focus on MedTech. It will invite startups from across Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, and India to co-create purpose-driven healthcare solutions designed to address the region’s unique and pressing medical challenges.
This event is being held in partnership with Tribe, Southeast Asia’s leading open innovation platform, which is supporting the design and operation of the program.

KUMIHIMO Tech Camp is built on Murata’s philosophy: a deeply rooted belief that truly innovative technological advancement must inherently make society better. Operating in more than 80 subsidiaries worldwide, Murata views innovation through the lens of long-term social responsibility. The 2026 Singapore edition will bring this DNA to a region where the need for accessible, fit-for-context healthcare technology is among the most urgent in the world.

ASEAN and India together represent more than two billion people and one of the most dynamic, yet unevenly resourced, healthcare landscapes in the world. From ageing populations and the rise of chronic diseases in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, to maternal and child health challenges in India and the Philippines, the region’s medical challenges require technologies designed for local contexts, rather than solutions imported from elsewhere.

KUMIHIMO Tech Camp Singapore 2026 will focus on three challenge areas where Murata’s hardware capabilities and startup innovation can combine to deliver measurable impact.

● Chronic & Infectious Diseases, Prevention & Early Detection: Enabling affordable and easy-to-use technologies that help prevent, detect or monitor chronic and infection-related health risks across ASEAN and India.
● Environment-Linked Health Monitoring: Developing MedTech solutions that help detect, monitor and respond to health risks caused by pollution, heat, climate change, urbanisation or occupational exposure.
● Decentralised Access to Quality Medical Care: Improving access to affordable and reliable screening, diagnosis, monitoring or follow-up care for underserved populations beyond major urban hospitals.

Participating startups will present to a panel of judges at Demo Day, to be held in Singapore on 26 November 2026. One winning team will receive a SGD 10,000 cash prize in recognition of its innovation and commercial potential. Beyond Demo Day, high-potential teams may proceed to Proof-of-Concept and Non-Recurring Engineering engagements with Murata. For solutions that align with Murata’s strategic focus areas, longer-term co-development and partnership opportunities may also be offered.
Applications will open in mid-June 2026. Interested startups may submit their applications via this link.
