Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Murata”) has received the “RE100 enterprising leader” award at the RE100 Leadership Awards 2025, hosted by RE100.1
1 RE100: An international initiative led by influential global companies dedicated to achieving 100% renewable energy, operated by The Climate Group, an international NGO, in partnership with CDP.
The RE100 Leadership Awards were created in 2020 as a program to recognize corporate leadership in climate action and efforts to accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy.
“RE100 enterprising leader,” which Murata received, celebrates the diversity of the RE100 membership, recognizing members from smaller industries or home markets and how they are going above and beyond in their efforts to hit their RE100 target.
Murata was selected for our leadership in Japan, bringing forward our RE100 achievement target year. We source creatively using solar power, battery storage, and efficiency measures. And moreover, with Japan, regularly cited as one of the more challenging markets for members to expand renewable energy, we contribute to policy efforts in the country. (Updated on October 3, 2025)
Murata joined RE100 in 2020 and, in 2024, brought forward its target achievement date by 15 years, from fiscal 2050 to fiscal 2035. By installing solar power systems at the company sites, utilizing renewable energy efficiently through the combination of Murata’s proprietary storage batteries and the renewable energy control solution “efinnos,” and expanding renewable energy contracts and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), we have steadily increased our renewable energy use. To date, we have achieved 100% renewable electricity at four sites in Japan and two sites overseas. Additionally, by exploring diverse energy sources beyond solar, including wind and geothermal, we are pursuing a mixed procurement strategy while diversifying risks and controlling costs.
Along with these initiatives, we have implemented an internal carbon pricing system to encourage renewable energy expansion within the company. We are also actively engaging with the Japanese government to promote climate change policies through policy advocacy activities with JCLP.2
