Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Murata Manufacturing") was awarded the 2022 Commendation for Science and Technology (development category) by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for developing surface acoustic wave components and an accompanying manufacturing method.
This award recognizes groundbreaking inventions or research and development that have actually been put to practical use and are contributing to the development and improvement of people's daily lives and the social economy of Japan.
Murata Manufacturing was honored with this award for development that has led to the world's first successful mass production method of a W-CDMA*1 SAW*2 duplexer*3, in turn contributing to the miniaturization and increased functionality of smartphones.
*1 Wideband Code Division Multiple Access: a wireless access method for 3G phones.
*2 Surface Acoustic Waves: waves that propagate along the surface of an object.
*3 Duplexer: a device that electrically isolates a transmitter and a receiver, allowing bidirectional communication over a single antenna.
