Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Murata”) has been selected by CDP, a global environmental non-profit organization, for its Supplier Engagement Leaderboard, the highest rating in CDP’s Supplier Engagement Rating.

CDP’s Supplier Engagement Rating assesses how effectively companies are collaborating with suppliers on climate change issues. The assessment is based on responses to questions in four areas—governance, targets, scope 3 emissions, and value chain engagement—on CDP’s climate change questionnaire. In fiscal 2021, the top 8% of companies answering the CDP Climate Change Questionnaire (full version) were selected for the Supplier Engagement Leaderboard; this was approximately 500 companies (including 105 Japanese companies).

Murata has chosen to reinforce climate change countermeasures as a priority issue (material issue). The company is conducting a variety of initiatives to reduce environmental impact, such as activities to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scope 1 and 2), grasp Scope 3 GHG emissions, and collaborate with suppliers involved in the supply chain. As a result of these initiatives, Murata has been selected for the Supplier Engagement Leaderboard for the second consecutive year, following fiscal 2020. In fiscal 2021, Murata also made CDP’s climate change A List for the first time. Going forward, Murata will continue to accelerate efforts to reduce CO2 emissions through the supply chain, such as by selecting parts with low environmental impact and increasing the input ratio of recycled materials.
