Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "the Company") has confirmed that its data network was illegally accessed by a third party, as announced in “Notification of Unauthorized Access to File Server” on April 27, 2023.
Since confirming the unauthorized access, the company has been working with an external security specialist organization to clarify the full extent of the damage and to prevent any recurrence.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and worry this may have caused to any other parties concerned.
■ Results of the Investigation
In conjunction with an external specialist organization, the company has been conducting an investigation to clarify the cause, details of the damage, and other matters. As a result, it has been confirmed that a third party gained unauthorized access to multiple file servers through one of the Company’s overseas subsidiaries. No unauthorized access to other business systems besides the said file servers was found to have occurred.
The investigation did not find any definitive evidence for the external leakage of the illegally accessed files. However, it was confirmed that the illegally accessed file servers contained files pertaining to business information provided by the Company’s business partners and the Company’s internal information. After analyzing the potential impact, the company individually reported to the business partners concerned.
■ Preventive Measures and Future Responses
After confirming the unauthorized access, the company promptly took measures such as restricting access from outside and blocking intrusion routes to prevent further damage. The company will continue to work on strengthening information security measures and preventing recurrence based on the results of this investigation and advice from the external specialist organization.
