Further to our initial announcement about unauthorized access to our IT environment by a third party, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Murata”) would like to provide an additional update regarding the scope of the impact and the status of our business operations.
Scope of impact
The system involved in this incident is used primarily for internal information sharing within Murata and represents just one of several that we use.
Currently known facts
Based on the investigations conducted to date, we have identified the data that was subject to unauthorized access. Following an internal review of the relevant data, we have confirmed that information relating to our customers and business partners, as well as personal information of our employees, was unlawfully obtained. We will notify affected customers and business partners individually in due course.
Impact on business operations
We responded immediately to the unauthorized access incident and have implemented the following measures.
・ Blocked the route of unauthorized access
・ Strengthened restriction on external access
・ Reviewed security settings
In addition, our investigation has confirmed the following.
・ No damage was found to our core systems supporting purchasing, production, and shipping.
・ No damage was identified to our email system.
・ No evidence was found of external files being uploaded to the company’s internal systems.
Based on these findings, we can report that our systems are operating normally, and there has been no disruption to our production or sales activities.
Measures to prevent recurrence
We are investigating the cause of this unauthorized access with the support of external cybersecurity experts and are implementing measures to prevent a recurrence. In response to this incident, we are assessing anticipated threat levels and taking further steps to strengthen our security measures. Going forward, we will enhance security measures in line with evolving threat trends.
Our investigation remains ongoing. Should new information emerge, we will carefully assess the details and provide an update promptly.
