Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan ‘echorb’ Wonder Stone

The future begins with your surprise.

Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
Murata presented the "echorb" Wonder Stone at the "Better Co-Being" Signature Pavilion.

The moment that you hold it in your hand, your heart is thrilled with excitement at such a novel surprise, and your pulse quickens at the thought you might be able to create an exciting future.
There is no greater joy than the idea that such a small surprise could be the first step in changing the future.

"Perhaps today's surprise will become matter-of-fact in the future."
Hopes such as, "If only this was possible" will become the future norm over time.

For this very reason, the future is shaped by the ideas of each individual.
Murata will connect those ideas, give them form, and deliver them to the world.
The echorb was also born from the convergence of such ideas.

This site introduces the echorb and various other initiatives undertaken by Murata at the Expo.
Each individual experience at the Expo is a step toward the future.
Murata will continue to combine ideas and pursue new possibilities to realize a society that is filled with well-being.
Take the first step toward leading the future together with us.

What is the "echorb" Wonder Stone?

"Explain the wonder stone in 10 seconds"

The echorb is the "crystallization of distinct technologies."
Many Expo visitors had an amazing experience with the echorb.

The echorb nurtures a challenge for the future

"How can we surprise visitors and make them feel hope for the future?"

The development team discusses their days of passion and creation as they continued to tackle questions with no right answers up to the completion of the echorb.

The distinct underlying technologies of the echorb

The echorbs are equipped with many Murata technologies, including 3DHaptics technology that emits peculiar vibrations to trick the brain of whoever holds them into thinking the stones are pulling them in one direction or another, LF antennas that detect the location of the stone, and RFID technology for individual identification that exchanges information with paired apps.
These technologies enable the echorbs to direct or guide their holders according to the location or person. The batteries are also made by Murata, and feature cavity resonance charging systems that make charging as easy as placing them in their charging devices that double as storage units.

Echorbs also sense the pulses of their holders, meaning that people can sense their own heartbeats when they hold an echorb. This is yet another place where Murata’s vital sensors shine.

What is "3DHaptics Technology"?

The key feature of this 3DHaptics technology is the ability to reproduce the force sensation of being pulled, the pressure sensations of hardness and softness, and the tactile sensation linked to the sense of touching something.

Potential applications of 3DHaptics technology include generating more realistic experiences with game controllers and providing directions to the visually-impaired by incorporating it into their canes.

What are heartbeat sensing and position detection technologies?

Heartbeat sensing technology is being considered for application in Child Presence Detection (CPD) as a technology for supporting the automobile society.

Furthermore, it is expected that position detection technology, which is less susceptible to obstacles, will be used by amusement facilities and event companies.

Pavilion introduction

Murata sponsored the "Better Co-Being" Signature Pavilion as a gold partner.

Based on the concept that "diverse resonances woven from connections with diverse lives will create a new era," the pavilion featured a structure without a roof or walls, various art installations, as well as the echorb and other Murata technologies for visitors to experience.
