The Murata Science and Education Foundation (Chairman: Tsuneo Murata, Chairman of the Board, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., hereafter, “the Foundation”) has determined the awardees of research grants for fiscal 2024, and held a grant presentation ceremony at the Hotel Granvia Kyoto on July 12, 2024. This year, 217 recipients were selected to receive 567.74 million yen in research grants, representing the Foundation’s largest annual grant endowment to date.
Established to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Murata’s founding, the Murata Science and Education Foundation aims to contribute to the development of Japanese science and culture through grants promoting research in areas of the natural sciences, particularly electronics, humanities and social sciences.
Grants fall into three programs: Research, Conference, and Overseas Research. The Foundation focuses on supporting original research utilizing electronics technology, and is particularly interested in fostering the work of budding young researchers. As of fiscal 2024, the Foundation has provided a cumulative total of 5,156 recipients with grants totaling 6.4376 billion yen that have contributed to the wide-ranging development of science and culture.

We received many applications this year as well. It is a great pleasure for the Foundation to be able to support enthusiastic researchers in the form of grants. Through these grants, we hope that all recipients will play increasingly active roles in front-line research fields that create innovation. We intend to continue increasing the amount of grants as much as possible in subsequent years to further contribute to the development of science, technology, and academic culture.
