Murata promotes technology exploration activities aimed at identifying potential discontinuous changes in the future. This is to sustainably enhance corporate value even amid rapid societal and technological shifts. Through this activity, we aim to establish a direction for Murata to continue contributing to society over the long term while envisioning future societies. To deepen our technology exploration activities, we will collaborate with our stakeholders to swiftly identify future changes and achieve sustainable growth in both social and economic aspects.

Currently, we are focusing our exploration efforts on six key areas: next-generation Communications, optics and semiconductors, environment, bioelectronics, robotics, and space. Through technology exploration in these fields, we will investigate and conduct R&D on technologies demanded by future society, ultimately leading to commercialization.

We continuously strive to realize innovative breakthroughs aimed at creating new industries and resolving societal issues. Currently, building on the widespread adoption of 5G, global development of the next-generation communication standard 6G—expected to be practical around 2030—is accelerating.

Murata is advancing a long-term strategy for 6G and the next-generation communication networks beyond it, focusing on acquiring the latest information and building robust partnerships. Furthermore, we are deepening our expertise across diverse technical domains—extending beyond device development to encompass network systems and software utilization—to lead innovations that will support the future communication infrastructure.

To timely capture signs of future change and emerging trends through investment in venture companies possessing such new technologies, and to contribute to their realization, Murata established “WONDERSTONE Ventures,” its first corporate venture capital fund.

WONDERSTONE Ventures identifies venture companies possessing groundbreaking technologies for the next generation and actively pursues investment in them. This enables us to identify discontinuous changes in future society early on and swiftly initiate research and development to respond to these changes.
