Murata completed the integration of its environmental management framework based on its environmental management system across all domestic business sites and all overseas production sites in fiscal 2009. At each site, we assess the risks and opportunities concerning the impact that business activities have on the environment. These assessments are reflected in the plans and measures of each site to engage in continuous improvement activities. Moreover, we share information pertaining to environmental management with the goals of promoting highly efficient and effective environmental activities and strengthening governance.
As part of the practice of Murata’s management philosophy, the Shaze (Murata Philosophy), everyone working at the Murata Group will promote environmental (E), health and safety (H/S), and disaster prevention initiatives.
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. President Norio Nakajima
At Murata, the President has been appointed as the Chief Officer of overall CSR management for the entire group, and under the Chief Officer’s direction, the Sustainability Department supports and promotes the group's environmental activities across all our business sites. In addition, as subcommittees of the CSR Management Committee, the Environmental and the Climate Change Committees have been established, chaired by the Executive Vice President and the Executive Deputy President, respectively.
The Environmental Committee examines and decides on environmental issues to be addressed, such as resource recovery and biodiversity protection, based on customer needs and social trends, and promotes the policies and medium- to long-term activities related to these issues through business activities. The Climate Change Committee promotes climate change countermeasures focusing on GHG emissions reduction and renewable energy introduction. The proposed actions discussed in each Committee are reported to and reviewed by the CSR Management Committee, and then placed under the Board of Directors' supervision.

Based on the ISO 14001 requirements, Murata has established an environmental management system designed to implement the PDCA cycle consistent throughout the entire group, whether inside or outside of Japan. This management system helps us to set goals relevant to social challenges and stakeholder needs based on the entire group's course of action, ‘EHS disaster prevention policy,' as well as to continuously pursue improvements towards these goals.
We also prioritize creating networks among those in charge of individual production/development sites to operate and promote the management system. We hold production/development site representative meetings periodically to exchange information, thereby further strengthening the promotion framework for achieving our targets.
Murata has acquired the ISO14001 certification for 50 domestic and overseas sites as of the end of April 2025. Murata has been advancing its efforts toward system integration, acquiring multi-site certification for its domestic group in March 2007, and completing the integration of all domestic and overseas production sites, as well as domestic non-production sites, in March 2010. Through this integration, Murata has been able to implement environmental management incorporating every division from design and development to production, distribution, and sales. This allows us to also take best practice improvements that proved successful in one site and apply them to other sites for the improvement of the environmental performance of the entire Murata Group.
In addition, in 2016, Murata began operating an EHS management system that integrates its environmental management and occupational health and safety management systems, striving for even more efficient and effective activities.

Murata conducts environmental education for all employees to improve their environmental awareness. Furthermore, employees who handle wastewater treatment and exhaust gas equipment or other equipment that affects the environment receive individual training on appropriate inspections and efficient operation to minimize the impact on the environment. Additionally, with regard to courses for training Murata internal auditors, the curriculum was renewed in line with the integration into the EHS management system. Starting in fiscal 2020, this has been rolled out across the entire Group as training content integrating ISO14001 and ISO45001, promoting more effective and practical personnel development.
The Murata Group conducts three types of internal environmental audits at all Japan sites and production plants. Each of these audits is conducted from a different perspective, enabling us to identify problems and make improvements based on broad-ranging perspectives.
