Communication with stakeholders

At Murata, we value dialogue with customers, employees, shareholders, investors, suppliers, members of local communities, and other stakeholders. We aim to co-create value with stakeholders by sincerely considering the valuable opinions receive from them through such interactions and reflecting such opinions in our management and business activities. Murata works to build relationships of trust with stakeholders through communication to co-create new value with them, thereby implementing the Murata Philosophy and contributing to a sustainable society.

Customers

Relationship with stakeholders At Murata, the values of “CS and ES” are regarded as key values in our management. In order to realize them, Murata strives to understand customer needs through communication in technology exchange meetings, etc. at an early stage of planning, development and designing phase of new products. By resolving customers’ issues and responding to their needs though such activities, Murata endeavors to build long-term trusting relationships with customers.

Specific examples of engagement Communication activities to understand customer needs
Murata participates in numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally to better understand customers’ needs. At Murata booths, we recreate some of the challenging issues faced by customers and our engineers give demonstrations of products that aim to resolve these issues. Additionally, considering the growing need for online communication, we also offer webinars that customers can join via PC or smartphone, in addition to offering services through a members-only portal site. By pursuing deeper communication with customers both face-to-face and online, we are able to quickly and accurately identify their needs and utilize that information to optimize service proposals and develop products that address their concerns and requests.

Murata aims to be a company where each and every employee achieves satisfaction and continues to grow through the performance of their work duties. Specific examples of engagement Activities utilizing the internal portal site to promote empathy with our vision
To promote employees’ understanding and empathy, as well as raise their motivation toward achieving Vision 2030 and the Medium-Term Direction 2024, as well as to improve access to related information, we promote activities utilizing the internal portal site to promote empathy with our vision. In fiscal 2023, we published articles that recorded discussions held between top management and employees, both from in Japan and overseas, regarding their interpretations of Vision 2030 and opinions on realizing that vision. In addition to communicating the themes that top management prioritizes and their aspirations for the next generation, we shared discussions Company-wide on how employees understand Vision 2030 from their perspective, areas where they saw challenges or had questions, and how they can put it into practice. Through this, we aim to help each employee find their connection to the vision and create opportunities for taking ownership and practicing personal action to help Murata become the company it seeks to be.

Shareholders and investors

Relationship with stakeholders Murata strives for timely, accurate and fair disclosure of information to shareholders and investors. Murata is also engaged in constructive dialogue with shareholders and investors with the aim of achieving sustainable growth and increasing the medium- to long-term corporate value.

Specific examples of engagement Promoting constructive dialogue with shareholders and investors
Murata has established a policy for constructive dialogue with shareholders and investors, and works to maximize corporate value through IR activities. In addition to engaging in over 500 opportunities for dialogue with investors and analysts each year, based on the feedback received from shareholders and investors during such discussions, we set up opportunities at IR briefings in fiscal 2023 for discussions with Outside Directors regarding capital markets. We also conducted tours of the Minato MIRAI Innovation Center, thereby deepen understanding of Murata’s technologies and initiatives in new lines of business. Furthermore, we work to enhance streaming and on-demand video of IR briefing sessions and availability of briefing materials, hold briefing sessions for individual investors, and otherwise expand information disclosure.

Suppliers

Relationship with stakeholders At Murata, we emphasize communication that will build mutually trusting relationships with suppliers that enables us to thrive and prosper together. We work with suppliers to improve our unique technologies and management technologies, and build trusting relationships by treating them sincerely, with impartiality and fairness, while complying with laws and regulations and abiding by social ethics.

Specific examples of engagement Measures to reduce environmental burden across the supply chain
As part of Murata’s environmental initiatives focused on issues such as climate change countermeasures and the use of sustainable resources, we use environmental policy briefing sessions for suppliers to introduce environmental targets and specific initiatives. We also hold one-on-one discussions with suppliers to listen to the issues they face in reducing their environmental impact and their expectations of and requests for Murata. The feedback received from suppliers through these activities is shared not only with procurement departments but also with business departments, sustainability promotion departments, and other related departments. In this way, we aim to enhance economic and social value throughout the supply chain.

Members of local communities

Relationship with stakeholders Murata aims to become a “presence in local communities that is a source of pride and joy to those communities”. In order to achieve this, Murata has made efforts to build good, trusting relationships with the people of the region through various ways of communication while gaining their understanding toward Murata’s business and initiatives by continuously engaging in activities that lead to solutions to the problems of the region in which we conduct business.

Specific examples of engagement Career training support through visiting classes
Murata works to broaden career paths available to science and technology students, and strives to communicate to children the mindset needed to be a working adult and the satisfaction that work can provide. In fiscal 2023, Toyama Murata Manufacturing Co, Ltd. (Toyama Prefecture) conducted visiting class projects at junior high schools in the prefecture as part of career education. Junior high schools are able to select the instructor who conducts the class, with a total of 16 schools selecting employees in this way. Multiple employees served as instructors in different specialized fields such as technology and design, sharing their knowledge and experience with the students. Comments from students who participated in these classes included that they gained an interest in manufacturing and were inspired to think about what career they might pursue in the future.
