STEAM education focuses on five subject areas: science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. As a leading electronics manufacturer, Murata is committed to STEAM education worldwide as a way to encourage tomorrow’s science and technology leaders and nurture the talent that will drive innovation in the future.
At Murata, nurturing the next generation is more than a commitment, it’s a core part of who we are. That’s why Murata Europe proudly supports the organisation First Lego League, an international robotics competition that encourages children aged 6 to 18 to explore creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork by designing and programming their own automated Lego robots. Our HR team across Europe joined forces to sponsor and volunteer at Lego League events, investing in STEAM education and reinforcing our Philosophy: contributing to society by empowering future innovators.
For Murata, the First Lego League is more than just a contest, it’s an educational journey that sparks discovery, innovation, and teamwork. Most importantly, it’s about having fun and inspiring a passion for learning. The values celebrated through these events symbolize innovation, education, and collaboration, mirroring the core values of our philosophy.
The season began in February in Germany, where our Murata colleagues actively supported the competing teams onsite. We proudly sponsored a student group from Hardenberg Gymnasium, while also taking the opportunity to showcase how our technologies, such as sensors and components, connect to real-world applications. The enthusiasm was contagious, and students were eager to explore, expressing interest in using our products for their own personal projects.
In France, children aged 9 to 14 gathered to tackle this year’s theme, “The Submerged World” focused on ocean conservation. During the event, teams presented inspiring innovation projects addressing environmental issues, demonstrating impressive creativity and teamwork. The competition tested their programming skills, precision, and logic as they guided their Lego robots through complex tasks. Murata had the honor of presenting the Innovation Prize during the awards ceremony which for us is a symbol of dedication to creativity, sustainability, and continuous learning.
Murata Italy fully embraced the “The Submerged World” theme by supporting events in schools across Florence, Turin, Verona, Como, Rome, and Genova. With teams ranging from 3 to 16 per location and 4 to 6 students per team, our volunteers connected with many young innovators. Our team not only volunteered but also presented Murata’s story to explain the link between our Philosophy and the Lego League ‘core values’. They also participated as judges, celebrating every team’s unique achievement.
The dedication from students and coaches through building, research, and teamwork showcased how innovation flourishes in collaboration! We’re proud to support this initiative and look forward to continuing our involvement.
